In summer 2018, Delta announced it would completely refurbish the Boeing 777s in its fleet, focusing on upgrading comfort and the overall passenger experience. While it will take all of 2019 to finish the refurbishments of all 18 of Delta’s 777s, the airline has already completed some of them.
And Delta chose JTB Business Travel to join a select group in getting a sneak peek at its posh new planes!
In December, Delta invited two JTB team members to experience what it’s like inside one of the airline’s new 777s. Here’s a look at what they experienced, as well as an in-depth description of what Delta’s newly refurbished 777s offer.
Touring a 777 in Minnesota
On Dec. 21, 2018, Assistant Manager Satoshi Kondo and Operations Manager Susan Sagara of JTB Business Travel flew to Minnesota’s Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) to see one of Delta’s newly refurbished 777s.
They had a chance to tour the plane’s interior and compare different seats and accommodations in each class. The 777 they toured flies regularly from MSP to Haneda Airport in Tokyo and South Korea’s Incheon International Airport. After viewing the 777, Satoshi and Susan were treated to lunch in the Delta cafeteria and given a tour of the airport (including one of Delta’s Sky Clubs).
The trip served as an opportunity to become more familiar with the newly refurbished 777s Delta now uses, as well as to build relationships with Delta staff and learn more about MSP.
Satoshi and Susan can’t wait to fly to Japan in Delta’s new One Suite with sliding privacy doors and full flat sleeper seats.
According to Susan, if you can’t upgrade to the One Suite, you can still have plenty of fun in the refurbished main cabin.

Delta’s New 777 Experience
Delta’s announcement that it would update its 777s represented a huge step forward for its passengers — especially business travelers who often take overseas flights. The newly refurbished 777s include 296 seats spread across three classes:
- Delta One Suites: Private spaces (with sliding doors) that include personal stowage and seats up to 24 inches wide.
- Delta Premium Select: Adjustable, 19-inch-wide seats that allow passengers to customize their spaces to meet their needs.
- Main Cabin: Includes 9 seats on each row (rather than the industry standard of 10) so that aisles remain wide and each seat provides 18.5 inches of width.
All seats on Delta’s newly refurbished 777s include entertainment screens with access to Delta Studio and thousands of hours of free content, as well as LED ambient lighting that evolves during different phases of a flight.
